Baekjae Dynasty

Tribal age
Byukbiriguk in the year 200.
Mahan is annexed to Baekjae during the 13th year of Dynasty (King Onjo).
Subjected to Wonmahan during the 47th year of the Baekjae Dynasty (King Gohee).
Name is changed to Byeokgol County during the 330th year of the Baekjae Dynsaty (King Biryou).

Unified Silla Dynasty/Koryo Dynasty

Name is changed the to Gimje County during the 16th year of the Unified Silla Dynasty (King Gyeongduck).
Promoted from Jeonjumok to Gimje District during the 21st year of the Koryo Dynasty (King Injong).
Promoted from Jeonjumok to Geumgu District during the first year of King Myeongjong¡¯s reign (Koryo Dynasty).

Chosun Dynasty

Name of Gimje Districy is changed to Gimje County in 1466 (The 12th year of King Saejo reign).
Mangeyong District is annexed to Gimje County in 1628 (The 20th year of King Gwanghaegoon¡¯s reign).
Mangeyong District and Geumgu District are annexed in 1759 (The 35th year of King Yeongjo¡¯s reign).

Japanese Colonial Days

Divided into Mangeyong District and Geumgu District in 1895 (The 32nd year of King Go-jong¡¯s reign, Chosun Dynasty).
Mangeyong District and Geumgu District are annexed in 1914.
Gimje Township is promoted to Gimje Town on Nov. 1, 1931.
Names of Ssanggam Township and Sooryu Township are changed to Hwangsan Township and Geumgu Township in 1935.
Names of Hali Township and Chojau Township are changed to Bongnam Township. (1 Town, 15 Townships)

Government Founding Period

Gwanghal Township is separated from Jinbong Township in 1949 (1 Town 16 Townships)
Mangeyong District and Geumgu District are annexed in 1914.
Self-governing systems for individual townships are abolished and the self-governing system for Gimje County is implemented on Oct. 1, 1961.
Gimje Town, Wolchon, Baeksan Township (Ha, Heungsa, Sangdong-ri), Bongnam Township (Wolsung-ri), Hwangsan Township (Nanbong, Hwangsan, Pojong-ri) of Gimje County are annexed to Gimje City and subjected to administrative division (15 Townships) on Jan. 1, 1989.
Bongnam Township (Yangjeon, Seojeong, Dojang-ri) of Gimhae County is partially annexed to Gimje City, bringing a change in the administrative zones (15 Townships) on Aug. 1, 1990 (Presidential Decree No. 13406, promulgated on Jul. 9, 1990).
Geumpyeong-ri of the Yongji Township was incorporated into the Liseo Township of the Wanju District, while Namjeong-ri of the Yongji Township and partial areas of the Baekgu Township (Dodo, Gangheung, Dodeok-ri) were incorporated into Jeonju City on Dec. 26, 1994 (Presidential Decree No. 14434).
Sanggyo village Namsang-ri Hwangsan Township of Gimje County is incorporated into Daesong-ri, Bongnam Township on Dec. 29, 1994 (Gimje County Regulations No. 1435).
Gimje County is annexed to Gimje City on Jan. 1, 1995 (Legislation No. 4774).
Mangeyong Township is promoted to Mangyeong Town on Mar. 2, 1995 (Gimje City Regulations No. 121).
Gwasodong is annexed (1 Town, 14 Townships, 4 Dongs) on Sep. 26, 1998 (Gimje City Regulations No. 245).
